Christopher DeLorenzo is a Boston-based graphic artist worth following. Currently the head designer at Johnny Cupcakes, the 20-something-year-old artist is also busied by freelance work, running a Big Cartel shop, and co-producing the Be Brave podcast.
“I have always been crafty and I definitely have a good case of ADD – I knew I didn’t have the patience to sit for hours at a canvas and paint a picture or be decisive and say ‘this is my thing’ and do that for a number of years,” the Syracuse University graduate said in a 2013 interview with One Minute With…. “I was attracted to design because of the freedom of projects, the turnaround time and the way that design trickled down from a set of principles and ideals rather than a medium. It was a way for me to sharpen my brain from all sides rather than just one.”
DeLorenzo’s portfolio is extensive, ranging from projects with Jameson Irish Whiskey to Sony and Lincoln Motor Company to Converse. In his own words, he “likes simple bold lines and the poetry in an image.” DeLorenzo’s illustrations are intricate and intriguing. His “Nude with Phone” series is illustrations featuring a curvy woman, free of clothes, lying in different positions while on her phone. It’s a favorite of mine. The first illustration from the series is available for sale as an 18×24 screenprint on French Dur-O-Tone via Big Cartel.
